Sometimes we blow it. And sometimes, by the beautiful grace of God, we get it right.
And then sometimes, both happen within five minutes of each other.
Man, that’s a hard day right there.

This past week had a lot of those hard days. Several days felt like a whole lot more “blowing it” than “getting it right.” I lost my patience (again), let my emotions control my thoughts (also again), and got into a silly fight with my husband, who, please know, I really do love deeply.
It’s like, somehow, when I feel like I’m growing in new areas of my walk with God, that’s when things start to unravel.
Do you feel that too? Like the closer you get to knowing Him, getting on track with your Bible study or prayer, even obedience, peace, or purpose… the more resistance shows up? Something in your world breaks down, your agitation levels increase while your patience decreases, and sometimes things feel rough that shouldn’t be that big of a deal.
You’re not crazy. And, sweet friend, you’re definitely not alone.
Sometimes what we’re facing isn’t just ordinary life stress—it’s spiritual opposition. Ugh – it’s such a real thing.
The enemy doesn’t need to bother us when we’re coasting – when we’re lukewarm. But when we start really paying attention to our Bible, praying more, walking in truth, loving our people better, or leaning into something God’s calling us to – ya’ll, that’s when the battle often heats up.
And it gets hot.
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” – 1 Peter 5:8
I used to think that messing up meant I wasn’t growing and that failing meant that I was messed up. Now I’m learning that growth often feels messy. We will fail and we will fall, but when we do, we fall into Jesus and then (and this is where the growth is) we learn what He’s trying to teach us. We have to stop holding ourselves by ourselves and trying so hard to fix ourselves. We need to learn that it’s ok to be held (sometimes tearfully held) by our Savior and lean in to Him closely. Because He’s fighting that spiritual battle with you, and He’s the One who’s going to win it.
He sees you fighting, and He’s coming to your aid.
Y’all, He knows we’re messy and we get caught up in other things and fail. But He’s still alongside us, and He’s still teaching us. Our job is just to lean into and listen to the Almighty Helper who knows our heart – and loves us so very deeply despite it.
So if you’re in that place today—feeling like a spiritual mess even as you’re trying to do the right thing—hear this: God sees your fight. He’s not disappointed in your struggle. And His grace is still sufficient.
Keep going, mama. The enemy doesn’t get the final say. Not in your motherhood, not in your marriage, and definitely not in your faith journey.
Still growing,
Sarah
